What photography books have you gotten the most value from?

I find that my greatest understanding and mindset shifts in life come from reading books as opposed to browsing forums or watching videos. Thinking about reading pic related.

Photography - The Definitive Visual History

It's not perfect but it is as one would hope photo dominate, large, and unlike most photo history books continues past the 1960s. It stops in the mid-2000s. Overall it's a nice survey.

Don't bother reading. Shoot more and identify what you like and dislike you about your photos. You're still in the exploratory stage. Enjoy looking and shooting everything.

if you're looking for a book to change your understanding of photography, i would recommend "The Nature of Photographs" by Steven Shore. It works almost as a grammar of photography, where he breaks down all the visual tools available in photography, with examples. It's written in a very concise and to the point way.

Magnum Contact Sheets.
Seeing the entire roll and how the photographer worked the scene leading up to the shot is fascinating.

Not a photo book but if you’re into photojournalism then Addario’s “What I Do” is really good.
