Being professional is more like a decision where in todays photography business it's one prone to fail if not in some industry niche or there's no outlook to outstanding work such that you can turn down clients. Clearly there's also a big marketing aspect. People here name repetitive and boring work all along, if doing commissions.
Honestly, it would be a shame if you don't follow to consolidate your enjoyment into an idea and project in the long run. Why don't you start to do some time for prints shots?
One goal of mine is to get a notion in all interesting kinds of photography. Another goal is fun to a great extend, learning and experimenting as goals, too.
Maybe my father with interest in people pushed me to try that. I didn't do people some years ago, then had a studio session at the local photography club and awkward results from mine. Sensitized I started to experiment at studio events, which led to friends asking me for application photos and pair shoots which opened doing all kind of photography for their aquantances, while I honestly suck, just do some recipie stuff that I've learned from others, also YouTube.
Right now I have an edge for actual portraits, shots that don't show people but rather are about people. I also have great interest in such work of others and would like to be decisive again, to transport my understanding of someone into their shot, do some social documentation project myself.
