This whole pandemic is the reason I bought out my truck and went owner-operator, you literally cannot fire me, all you can tell me is there is no freight or it's a slow day. Economy goes south? I'm still working, people gotta eat, and truckers will always be needed. I might not be doing 6 loads a week, maybe 3 or 4, but I'm still getting paid.
The one thing we are seeing, is meat plants, though hysterically busy right now in maximum overdrive, are closing down because of COVID-19 cases on site. Smithfield has closed a few of their facilities but I think the remaining open ones are picking up slack, their Tar Heel facility has been the busiest I've ever seen it, trucks parked all over the property waiting for loads and trailers triple-parked on streets and passageways.
