For those of you who live in suburbs or other similar environments, how do you find inspiration or things to shoot?

Everything in a 20 mile radius is either a Walmart or a restaurant (not the comfy photogenic kind you would find in a city or even a small town, it's just McDonalds and such here)

sounds like you don't like the suburbs. plenty of people don't. use that sentiment as your inspiration - how can you express your hatred of the suburbs through photography?

alternatively get a car and drive 20 miles away.

it's all about perspective, flat looking shots of american streets with their walmarts and whatever else you guys have is fascinating to me. if you can make that appealing, with nice thought out colours and lighting you could have something.

Or go door to door and ask to shoot portraits of people in their home, or on their lawn. make it some kind of study of the american suburban dream or some shit. and do it all on an 8x10.

or go for a drive

Photograph your wife, kids, and pets. If you want to do more than that then get in your car and drive literally anywhere. How is this different than the city rat lifestyle of going outside and having to walk to find something interesting?

Have a look at what Stephen Shore or Eggleston did.
Forget the landscapes, celebrities, architecture, the mundane can be wonderful and often tells a more subtle story.

personally I love any burbs

I used to take them for granted because it seemed like literally nothing could be interesting but when I started going out to recapture the feel of wandering around as a kid in my neighborhood it really clicked for me

for my stuff personally I don't really worry too much about what it is I'm shooting but moreso finding clear patterns combined with just odd detached scenes to recreate this comfy vague idea I have of what burbs mean to me

Exactly what I was trying to drive at in my comment just above.
Saying that some subject matter is boring is not paying attention to the potential it has to create feelings.
People live their lives in suburbs or housing complexes, etc They attach feelings to it.
OP, use photography to find ways to surface those feelings.

These are really nice photos. I'm new to this hobby and I've never thought to capture my neighborhood for privacy reasons. Does anyone ever object to what you're doing or give you a hard time? How do you usually go about it?

I'll have to check both of them out. Eggleston's work is actually on the cover of one of my favorite albums, so I've heard that name before.

if someone's really upset about it I'll just delete the shots even though I don't have to

I dont know if you noticed but pretty much the vast majority of my shots are devoid of really anything that could indicate where they are really

I like to think that all of my stuff could be done in just about any suburb. A lot of these shots are several hundred miles apart and states away but still fit the same nondescript suburban feel

thats just my style though you just need to go out and observe elements you may not have noticed in the past and form your own ideas and themes about it

I haven't used the k-50 in ages since I've switched to mainly using an x100f but when I did use it I never had any problems with it

still appears to be functioning fine, never heard of any aperture block issue
