Making good photos is not just a setting and push of a button, you have to have interesting scene, subjects, good light and good timing. You have to work hard to be there in the right moment the first place, and then getting the moment. It takes time, don't worry much, use the kit lens, practice, than practice some more. In a few years of practice you will start to have keepers.
