helo low iq question
Does the power of a CPU matter when exporting images on Lightroom? I noticed that despite having similar settings on my desktop and laptop, the latter has huge filesizes (1.5mb vs 4mb)

The power of the computer won't affect the resulting file size. There will most likely be some quality/file type/resolution difference between the two.
Unless Lightroom does something crazy like set the quality based on the CPU power, to keep export times consistent between computers.

Next retard question:
I export 2 images both at 3000x2000 - 90% quality but one of them is 1.5mb while the other is 5.5mb. What causes this?

Not sure then. I don't use Lightroom so I wouldn't know if it does something no obvious.

Same Lightroom version on both computers?

Are they visibly different? Can you spot more artifacts around high-contrast areas in the 1.5MB image? It's quite a big difference in file size. Maybe the bit depth is different? Although AFAIK JPEG is always 8 bit.

If they are 2 different images it's not that weird to have a big discrepancy in file size, despite the resolution and quality setting being the same

The compression jpeg uses might be able to have a really good time with one image over another. A photo with large amounts of similar colours will compress well

Nah you are right. One image is just a flower with sky background whereas the other is a busy streetscene
