>Tell all me about the vibrant art scene Who said anything about the art "scene"? Being too deeply involved in a scene is generally detrimental to personal growth as an artist. The instagram urban explorers league is a "scene" too.
>renown galleriesthe Souths claim to fame in the art world is its steady production of outsider artists and folk art, not its gallery scene (which is more to do with buyers than artists, anyway)
The conflation of brand deals with artistic ethos is a great example of the complete sterility of the modern (and generally urban) art scene, if anything.
If I were interested in engaging in the city-life art scene, there are a load of cities I'd pick before I stepped foot in New York.
Austin, Minneapolis, Atlanta, I'd even go as far to say Birmingham, AL. These are places with distinct art scenes, not "global cities" like New York or London.
I can tell that you don't personally have your foot in either the art world or the world of photo history, so let me simply advise you to check out the work of the FSA photographers when they were in my area, and follow the line of inspirations down.
Anyway, like I said, I make 1.5 million dollars a day, I can easily afford to pay for rent in New York. Take my word for it!
