I'm sure theres been hundreds of threads like it before but, what's a good beginner camera? Maybe $100-$300 range.

I enjoy taking pics on my Pixel 4 but I want to start getting more into the hobby. I guess the type of pictures I want to take and my main influence is Inkstaboy on IG, his photography is incredible.

I will always recommend a Canon Rebel camera (Say $300 - 600). Can be found for hella cheap. And the 50mm prime lens is also really cheap (say $150).

Idk why you like Inkstaboy... but you can easily take pics like that with this setup.

I just got a manufacturer-refurbished Canon EOS M50. Seems good to me. Only around $350

I’m a total newbie but a wedding photographer friend (who is successful in her field) recommended it.

You are too poor to afford anything new. Unless you can spend at least $1000 then will struggle to afford photography as a hobby. Your best option is a used canon rebel. Canon had a giant used market for you to buy affordable products on.

Sort of, not really. A new camera won't make you a better photographer, and there are plenty of folks who don't even know that they have limited gear making great work on a D3400 and a kit lens. However, you will eventually want something longer or wider or sharper or brighter than the lens you have, and you'll want a camera that shoots more frames, faster, in darker conditions and always nails focus.

If you start to try and make money with your work, no one will take you seriously if you show up with an entry camera.

A lot of the strength of your work with a shitty camera will depend on subject matter. The people who are shooting pictures of all the 20 year old girls will be very popular and may not need a better camera for a while. The people using the latest trendy presets will be fine without upgrading for a while. The people trying to shoot artsy lowlight photos will be fucked. The folks trying to shoot serious wildlife pics will be fucked. the people shooting sports or journalism will be shit out of luck.

Pentax K-5II. You can pick one up used with a lens for under $500. It's an old camera but Pentax builds their shit to last

It's by far the safest bet all things considered but people on here don't like it because it has its own type of mount (where you put lenses in) with a very limited selection.
In short its a great camera untill you became a gearfag that needs his niche lens

There are things in photography that can only be done with expensive gear. Others dont depend on gear that much.

Street photography: $300
Macro/Landscape: $2000
Portrait: $3000
Birding/Sports (all-weather-option): $20'000

I think the mount is called an EFM mount? You can to look up what prime lens are available. Or you can just rock the kit lens. But I don't like it.

At first glance you can buy a 30mm 1.4f for about 350.

If you're close enough and in decent light, you can't really tell the difference between pro gear and consumer. I still use 70-300 all the time, to the point that the grip has come off like a sock... it's funny how many times an Anon will say "I wish I had your gear" assuming I'm always using a big prime. Even in challenging conditions, the difference between a decent consumer lens and pro lens is marginal. People just need to stop cropping the shit out of shots and try getting closer instead. This 70-300 looks great within 10 feet, easily isolating the subject.

Weather isn't an issue either, just use a plastic bag. I use one no matter what the gear. Slide it over the whole setup, rip a hole for the front element, stretch it to fit, and secure it with the hood. It will be loose enough to use all your buttons and rings no problem.

Man I didn’t realize the lenses would be so expensive. All the prime lenses for this camera with large apertures cost as much or more than the body :(
