Do you sometimes use the film simulations? And which ones?
I find myself really liking PRO neg hi with the shadows bumped up a little. In most cases I don't even feel like editing the RAW and just save the jpeg.

I really like film for their colors but really I wonder if I were to go around town and shoot pictures like this with a digital camera they would all be considered horrible. Yet since these are film it looks fine

if you compare their film sims side by side you can get some interesting insight into what they're aiming for

Classic negative for example has much more blue added into its greens for its signature look, despite *substracting* a bit of blue from its skies compared to classic chrome (which has more yellow-greens, brighter true blues, but less pop in the highlights of those blues)

nothing says "pretend photographer" like missing good shooting hours because you're polishing turds under the mistaken guise that the perfect edit will elevate your work from shit to hit

real photographers edit with purpose, not as a general rule :^)

Here with Negative you can see it's more prone to some desaturation in blue highlight areas
These two sims make a great pairing, with negative being great for taming the obscenely yellow greens that are common to southern summers, while chrome is excellent for bringing out skies and water where you're not concerned with some extreme greens coming through

Eterna is good too if you've got really banal and cucked German aesthetic tastes. I don't have any Eterna samples to provide, but it's just an extremely neutral and clinical sim meant primarily for grading over for video. Some weirdos like it for stills, though.

classic negative has some iconic reds as well thanks to those blue-enriched greens (add more yellow to the greens, and there's less color contrast between the reds and their neighbor pixels)

Acros is great, but I suspect you mainly feel this way because you lack color competency and are intimidated by the other sims and their use-scenarios :^)

an important part of maturing as a photographer is realizing when your edits are for the simple sake of having said you made your mark on the image (probably because you didn't feel you made enough of a mark in the first place via composition or subject selection)

why not post process them yourself for me and show me what you mean? There's plenty of latitude in a jpeg for most editing purposes, I'm sure you can make an approximation
