>>3653011Pro and Cons of a film school
Cons
- The degree title is literally a worthless piece of paper.
- nobody cares if u graduated from the AFI or UCLA or NYFS or any university by that matter.
- Waste of money/ You'll probably end up with dept
- You could be using that money To do other stuff like. Buy/invest in equipment. Start your own video production company. Rent equipment and shoot video/shorts. Etc
Pros
- CONTACTS/NETWORKING (if you decide to go to a BA school don't be those an antisocial outcast. The film world is probably 80% contacts, 20% talent. Be friendly and try to be friends with the teachers, Be friendly and try to make friends with the students that have potential or at least students that work hard.)(Its a sad reality that it works like this but most of the jobs one gets are referrals from the people you meet/work with. Don't cry about it cant be changed. I'm a fucking antisocial introvert that had to learn and constantly have to leave my comfort zone in order to socialize and it's working out for me.)
- EQUIPMENT (Make sure the school has decent and high-end equipment. That for me is the main point of film school being able to touch and learn how to operate these types of specialized equipment. For example ARRI, SONY, RED, CANON cinema cameras, expensive cinema lenses, lighting equipment, grip equipment, etc.)
- THEORY (A lot of people will tell you that you can learn film language/ theory on the internet and books but personally there's a lot of material that is not being talked about or is just glossed over or is very poorly explained)
Also if you DO decide to take a BA make
