We spend a lot of money on lenses and bodies, but tend to view our photos on $200-$500 SDR IPS monitors.

Has anyone done research on HDR monitors? What are the good photography monitors? How does the DisplayHDR 1000 8bit Acer Predator X27 compare to a 10bit BenQ SW271 or the 8K 10bit dell UP3218K? Or does an LG OLED tv beat them all? Does anyone have experience with these higher end monitors?

HDR has nothing to do with photo editing nor will you get any benefits from using a 10bit 8K display, stop being a spec-faggot.

The main factor to consider when buying a monitor is if it has 100% sRGB (you need 100% sRGB), the resolution of the display (I recommend 1440p or 4K don’t bother going higher) and also to get a monitor calibration tool (Datacolor SpyderX Pro).

I edit on a cheap calibrated Benq BL2420PT and have never had an issue.

I use to think that i needed the best of the best everything for producing music but then i realized that everyone listening to it either
A) doesnt mind the small differences of details that producers make when using extremely high end equipment vs lower end
B) Is listening (or in this case viewing)to your work with shitty equipment that can't even pick up on all the extra details you put in
C) Is listening (or viewing) without any intentions on critiquing and really just want to relax or have fun (90% of people)
You also face the fact that if you put your pictures on instagram or facebook then that website will apply compression and convert everything to various file formats which, while still good, might take away the extra work you put into it.
In the end though everything is up to you and whatever makes you happy. Personally i like to take the best possible pictures and touch up as little as possible. If I'm doing something creative then my monitors are more than good enough to accommodate that (they're 200$)

I'd say hdr 600 is a good middle ground between cost and performance, and 10 bit leads to more problems than it solves unless the monitor is solely for print work.

I've out a deposit down for the middle Eve monitor as it looks to have a great feature set for the price.

Any good monitor is wasted if it's not regularly calibrated though, I'd sooner take a $100 ips and an entry level Spyder than a $600 monitor without a calibration device.

I agree with most of this anon. I disagree on the part of editing being useless, but what is the point of a fully calibrated monitor and setup, if all your viewers don't have a similarly calibrated setup.

A calibrated display is only useful if you want to do printing and thus have calibration between the monitor and your printer and know your output before you hit the print button.

Benq sw271 is a dope monitor, for people saying you only need sRGB, sure and you only Need jpeg... stfu if you are so poor. If you have decent FF digital camera and dont have 2x 27inch or larger, wide gamit colour calibrated monitors photo editing will be sub par. 10 bit lut only relevant for photoshop not LR at this time.
HDR monitors are not mature, most affordable colour accurate ones are only hdr400 as cannot maintain uniform brightness...
