I just bought a G9 + Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4 for hybrid shooting. It seemed to have the most bang for the buck video shooting wise and the image stabilization seems top of the class. Lightweight and more affordable lenses also were alluring. High ISO shooting seems quite bad but workable with faster glass. Did I fuck up? Is micro four thirds dead? Is there a better choice for hybrid shooting at the 1000$ price range?

Not a really good choice for low light, but in the low midrange + with a video requirement, you can't really choose all that much more.

I figure it's overall a decent compromise if the budget was somewhat fixed.

MFT might be slowly dying, but that's unlikely to affect you much within the next 4 or whatever amount of years you'll be using this camera.

It's a camera not a night vision goggle. Lighting is a fundamental aspect of video production --- it's only until recently film stock went beyond ASA (ISO for film) 25 or 50.

You film yourself. With the camera. Then you film footage. With the camera. Not hard.

The odd section where the button layout or menus are shown are filmed with some other camera. Could be a video off another Sony, a Gopro, a RED. Or they could be photo stills in the video taken with a Nikon or smartphone. Nobody but maybe the odd Fuji or Leica faggot gives much of a shit about beauty shots OF the camera though, you probably don't need to bring a film crew with an Arri for this.

Most of these more professional shills tend to have a guy following them around filming them taking shots on their sample camera. DPReview, one of the biggest, is always shot on a Panasonic.

Most reviewers record with the damn camera they review if it's possible because it makes sense.

Reducing camera shake as much as possible is probably the best thing you can strive towards if you're just walking around filming yourself or others. So for videomaking I would say that getting the camera with the best stabilization within your budget is always the best thing you can do. Better than having a bigger sensor.

No, audio, good audio first, then cinematography, then image. Funnily enough in video and cinema the actual image equality is the last part of the chain.

It is 100$ firmware upgrade. vlog 4:2:2 at 30fps is what I need. You'd still need to go gh5 if you needed more than 30min recording limit and 4:2:2 at 60fps internal.

I've got one aswell and take it with me whenever I go hiking, it has a great fit in my hands and is very satisfying to use. I just love taking it with me, even on longer hikes.
