Okay, so, you know what a lens hood is, right? Those little black plastic or metal things that extend out from from the front of a lens? The reason people use those is because they block the light coming in from weird angles, which give you lens flare and make your picture fuzzier.
A transparent lens would have light coming in from the sides throughout the whole optical path. So what you'd get when it eventually landed on the sensor would be a complete mess. You'd get an image from the light that followed the nice straight optical path from the front, sure, but that would probably be entirely washed out by light that took a shortcut and came in from a weird side angle and completely bypassed some of the lens elements.
As I write this out, I'm more and more convinced that I'm just responding to a troll, but I guess there *are* people this dumb, so hopefully this will educate one of them.
