When did you grow out of your "photograph the closest thing available and make it black and white" concrete jungle phase and started looking for interesting subjects and events people actually want to look at?

Not yet. Prolly because I still enjoy it. Soon it'll lose its appeal for me. Most my pics are basically just pics of some random doods on the streets, minding their own business and being normal ™, taken with a 270mm equivalent lens. So they aren't even good. So...

I don't think I ever went into an artsy phase with photography. I just try to find subjects and objects that relate to my interests (anthropology and historical events) and capture them in the most compositional competent way possible

I just look for neat light and scenes. Don't really care about subjects at all these days. It's fun and having fun is all that matters. IDGAF what other people want to look at.

IDK man. I know a lot of people who steal into trains so they take nothing but bang on shots of trains. But people who are "into" photography, the history, the art and craft, the creative side, are the ones doing interesting things. Not just taking mundane pictures of interesting things.

You think Ernst Haas was only interested in photography?

A quote on his Wikipedia page:

I said into the history, art craft and creativity. Not someone who is a capital P photographer that takes pictures only of X Y or Z as opposed to using it as an outlet for creative expression.

Ernst Haas isn't only interested in photography. He's interested in history and the arts in general. He doesn't fall into the category I'm talking about.

Thanks, that's what I'm getting at.

If you're only interested in photography and become technically profecient at it...if you have nothing to say or no interests to explore via photography...you're going to end up saying nothing except "hey, look I can read a camera meter and focus a lens"
