>>3670396>It does. "Custom key -> pick whichever button -> finder/monitor sel."Allow me to rephrase:
Sony, ON THE A7 II, doesn't give you the option to put the toggle on a custom button.
> Not really unnecessary. You missed an unnecessary step.
1. Press the button you have assigned to put the camera into AF point selection mode.
2. Press any of the directional buttons. This doesn't actually change your AF point selection. It's just an unnecessary extra button you have to press.
3. Start pressing the directional buttons however many times you need to to get to the proper AF point
It's that step #2 that annoys me the most. It's completely unnecessary. It's not for distinguishing between the functions assigned to the d-pad because those are already disabled when you hit the select-af-point button.
But that being said, while I do understand the purpose of step #1 (which is that it distinguishes between select-AF-point mode and the normal functions of the D-pad), I still resent it. I would much rather have the D-pad select the AF point directly. I need to change my focus point far more frequently than I need to change ISO (I leave it on auto 99% of the time if I'm not shooting in extremely complicated light), the number of items displayed on my screen around the image, or the drive mode, which are the things natively assigned to those directions. There's an FN button, so I'd be totally happy hiding those settings behind that.
There's what, 11 customizable buttons on the A7 II? Each one can be set to any of a huge (not even alphabetized!) set of functions. And yet, the majority of the customizable functions shoehorned in there are things that I never, ever care about, and there are things that I desperately want that aren't in there. That's just bad design.
>why else would you find it to be "barely making it worth putting up with it"? You'd just fix it.To "just fix it", I'd have to buy an A7 III. That costs $1600+. I already own an A7 II.
