In terms of difficulty to learn/execute/master, how would you rank each type of photography?

Wildlife is light years above any of those, not just conceptually/compositionally but also technically, and I'm saying this as someone who works in events.

>only the best hardware allowed, telephoto lenses and rugged bodies with fast AF and fast burst that doesn't choke are musts
>the most difficult terrain and conditions, especially if you're going on expeditions
It's the endgame hobby of pro photographers with money and time to spend, the only "easy" part is that the subjects won't get mad at you and sue you for missing their special moments.

This x1000. Almost every shoot looks like trash because of telephoto lenses anyway (also wildlifers seem to have zero aesthetic taste). Wide angle wildlife photography is endgame tier in terms of skill.

I get that you are just starting out reading about basic bitch crap like composition and exposure but there's no actual difficulty when it comes to just taking the photo, what makes it difficult is everything that comes before and after the photo taking which also includes consumer expectations, the amount of work that goes into a simple model portrait is infinitely more difficult and laborious than a pretty city scene, OP got the scale right but forgot some modalities.

Maybe the average flickr vignetting backyard birding fuck but pro wildlifers make absolutely stunning photos and videos, you can argue wildlife pics are all about timing and being lucky that the animals do something interesting but these things don't happen by accident, a lot of research and setup goes into capturing specific moments and the luck involved is actually bad luck since you aren't guaranteed to photograph what you want regardless of how well you technically and creatively prepare.

Event and wedding photography is probably in the right spot.
I'd put street/photojournalism right below that.
Portrait is next. But really, it deserves its own special category because of how much prep work is involved for a good portrait.
Landscape is below that, but it depends. It's not technically difficult, but waiting weeks for the right lighting conditions can be annoying.
Wildlife is a game of gear and chance, as well as subject. Great wildlife photographers go to Africa to see the animals up close and use very expensive gear that gets demolished.
I'd say the easiest is macro. You need a tripod and a lens, and maybe a flash but that's about it. The rest is composition.

They just use lures, remotes and various tricks. This one comes to mind:

And this isn't even the only sin of that episode. There's a section there of two eagles fighting over a catch. It was clearly a lure, something that is frowned upon, yet they presented it as a lucky shot.

What?

A "simple" portrait could be banged out pretty easily. Overhead light with softbox, position chair and have people sit in it and smile, push the shutter, done. This is how people bang out portraits for kids on portrait day. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think that this is "infinitely" more complex than setting up a generic landscape or cityscape shot. Are you one of those people who think you're king of the plebs and above everyone because you use artificial lighting? Is that what this is about now?

sure you can make an ugly chick look okay but putting uggos in your portfolio is a mistake. Why? Simply because people will assume that you can make them look good. If they see some fugly fat cunts in your portfolio they'll assume that it's because you couldn't make them look good. Invest more than you can afford into hiring the fittest, prettiest, tightest models you can afford and then triple your rate moving forward.

I would argue that the most difficult thing in photography(or in art form) is developing your own signature style.
Second most difficult thing is to build a strong narrative with bunch of photography in the form of exhibitions or photobooks.

Technically it's isn't hard to develop an understanding of any photography genre. But developing an understanding of what to exclude from the photograph, developing your "mind's eye", having a signature style, pushing the boundaries with experimentation, building narratives etc. is where the difficulty lies in photography.

Arguing about what genre is easy or hard is pointless. There's examples of low hanging fruit, half-assed, clout chasing cliches in every photography "genre", pushing yourself to be really good is not easy regardless of what you're doing.

For me, things like architectural photog are extremely easy.
Landscapes or anything in nature are very difficult to get "right" but there's people who think it's easy because they have shit taste.
And obviously B&W is easy mode for any of these.

This is retarded. Wildlife is pretty easy to shoot. Just get a 400/600mm zoom and put it on a crop body. Looks almost the same as a telephoto prime.

I don't think there is a scale really, everyone will have different types they're better at.

I think I'm pretty ok at doing landscape and architectural stuff, but I suck at street. Woudn't even call me good at events either

I just started doing macro recently and it's pretty awesome how easy it is to get a really beautiful shot. Why do you say portraiture is hard? I feel like it's kind of similar to macro - it's not too complicated to figure out and achieve what people think looks good.
