I want to get into medium format but same problem arises. I should have bought something five years ago now it's getting increasingly difficult. People offering Bronica 645's for Hasselblad money is just stupid, might as well get a Hasselblad then. You only have to get lucky once though.

This. A plastic, silver bodied Nikon SLR from the 90's is too new to be "vintage/retro". You can find them dirt cheap.

They will usually have features found on modern DSLRs like auto focus, metering modes, bracketing, etc. Also most modern lenses will work well on older film bodies.

When the digital revolution happened the cameras stayed the same, the only change was the medium. (sensor). Mirrorless has changed that recently so now cameras are more like video cameras that can capture stills.

Same here, about £50 for a random working model. I learned how to shoot on a k1000 so I have a soft spot for them. If I wanted to do "film" as a hobby/pastime I'd get one. If I wanted to to photography I'd look elsewhere (plastic silver SLR). Hope you're well sweetness.

Also something like a T90 was (probably still is) a great deal. A pro body with modern controls, but the last of the manual focus FD line with cheaper lenses.
And still all the fancy metering modes, fast flash sync etc etc.

T90s carry a premium here in the States, I have one, with that lovely 35/2.8 they sometimes came with.

Even with their inflated cost aside, they are still a serious deal for anyone who wants modern controls and manual focus. Almost every modern Canon EOS line can trace their design back to the T90. They have full PASM, all those metering modes, but with integrated motor drive and winder. That was a huge deal in 1987 for any 35mm SLR.

If you want to shoot Canon FD mount there's no other body to do it on. The F1 is nice if you need fully mechanical, but if you don't, the T90 is the ticket. It's so nice I sold all of my other non-Nikon or USSR 35mm shit and kept my T90.

I'm not a fanboi but I do have a Nikon system, almost complete too. They do have a plethora of cheap lenses especially if you can use pre-AI. The saturation master himself Ken Rockwell has a Cheapskate Lenses review you need to check out. Most of my solid performers in my kit cost under 50 bucks. The 70-210 f45.5.6D is one, I have it's optically identical non-D twin and the optics are mind-boggling compared to some of my more upscale lenses.

About the same and better in some cases. You'll pay through the nose for a 50 1.2 AIs, the 1.8 Series E stomps it at f2.8 and is like 1/4 of the size and weight, and price and is only like a stop and some change slower.

My primes are older ai/af lenses, I like them. There are bargains here too (UK) if you are patient.

I have 3 zooms and 3 primes but I'm not happy, Over time I'll refine my choices. So far though it's working. I'm a poorfag with a d7000 so choices are a little more limited.

Well it depends. You can get a decent one for much lower than decent digital. For instance, I got OM-4 Ti + 50/1.8 for $300, MAT-124 for $200, these are good cameras.

Ideally you'll want something thata accepts modern batteries or something that uses batteries only for the meter and this leaves you with a handfiul of models which are not produced, but became popular again, hence the price increase.
