>>3687798I think for birding the most important part of your kit is going to be the lens. you want at least a 200mm so you can get a good shot of your bird without scaring it away. (this photo I took I was maybe 3 - 5 meters away from the bird and that was pushing it.)
for still shots, the body really doesn't matter too much. but I'm sure at some point you'll want to take action shots and for that you'll need a fast camera. if you're willing to spend a little more, I'd look into a canon 7D mk ii. I picked mine up for $650 CAD. and it's an awesome camera.
but really to start I'd do this,
