I liked how its angled here and a bit more confusing at first. Otherwise I’m afraid many of the shots are too plain and obvious what’s going on. It holds no intrigue to the viewer, doesn’t compel me to see more. But its well executed.

I don’t really know of a lot of guides, im self taught for the most part.

For curves I’d rec Alex Burke’s guide on luminosity masks, it will teach you what you need to know. For dodge/burn you just need to practice. I don’t use extra layers or masks for that.

I wouldn’t say it’s a “phase” for me really, I just enjoy taking pics of this stuff. I like the geometry and the colors. It doesn’t really bother me if people do or don’t like it, especially on /p/, but I think sharing your photos, whether good or bad, is good for the board, certainly better than the 25+ gear threads that are on the board right now.

This also isn’t the only kind of work I do, I’ve done portrait exhibitions and have worked with performers, I just don’t really like posting that stuff on /p/ bc I want to respect my clients’ privacy.

The portrait thread is full of photos that are much better than anything in this thread. Where's your gushing over there? The Melbourne BLM thread is incredible. The Macroshit thread has some stunning photos, all of which took more effort and thought than "here's a wall!" The cloud photo thread even has some great stuff. What about the guy who shot photos of his childhood home juxtaposed with family snapshots? It's awesome. The point is, there are great photos all over this dump, you just have to actually look for them and not just click on the easiest, most attention-grabbing style-heavy thread on the front page.

If you wanna shoot walls, you gotta give it context, and you have to include more of the scene for it to have impact. Eugene Atget shot a lot of walls, but they were in the service of documenting a rapidly disappearing Paris.

I get that OP is going for that industrial banality, but for it to truly succeed, there would need to be a more curatorial eye that finds similarities between all the scenes, or she would need to include some external context. As is, these fall into the "neat" category. As in, "neat photos!"

That's all a photo needs to be successful. Narrative is a larp, and so is namedropping "successful" photorgaphers from the past
'banal' photos gain value over time as the world changes form. someone namedropping Eugene Alget should understand that and realize it's impossible for your critique to have teeth so early in these shots aging process.

This is the same as the retards that think modern photos will never be as "classic" looking as older photos because there aren't any old school cars in them.

Except he didn't exclusively shot walls, yes walls are part of the exterior architecture but this wasn't his main goal. And it's silly to draw comparisons between his work and OP's work. I can clearly see Lewis Blatz influence in these photos though.
For me this is the greatest photo thread of /p/ and it's true.

This is my favorite of the bunch. Reminds me of a metal sign making place that I bought a film camera from.

I love the theme of the shoot. I have been thinking about a 2D garage shoot about people in uniform spaces acting differently. The colors are rich and there is enough of a contrast that make different aspects pop.

I'm not sure how I can critique. I personally find the subject matter in all your photos very boring but I think they are very consistent except for a couple like the bike and car which do not have the same "straight on" perspective which is a little jarring if your making a book?

I don't really know what I'm supposed to think or feel when I see these photos. The buildings themselves don't even tell a story. Is it the symmetry of colour in some of them? But then there's others where colour doesn't play in at all. I'm just overall confused and I think that is what's resulting in further disinterest.

But I agree. It's color, textures and geometry but I still think, that, for example if it's to be in a book it generally has consistency except for a few things. Like I mentioned some of them like the bike just completely throw out the usual "straight on" perspective that ALL the other photos do, very jarring. And then that some of them have a lot of colour play and then suddenly 0 colours.

Finally I still think even if it's "just" geometry, colours and architecture it still should and *does* invoke *A* feeling, it's just *I* don't personally feel anything (because it's not my kind of subject matter) and I don't know really know what OP wants me to feel.
