The gold plating itself is not expensive and is fairly easy to do, the leatherwork would probably be the most difficult part.

Also like the OM-1 in black.
Apart from the small size and dense feel, it has the nicest prism shape (close contender, Nikon F unmetered prism), and minimal branding, not even the model name is there.

Most non-pros would buy third party zooms.
People were far more impressed by zoom capability and range than being anal about image quality.
Also first party lenses, aside from a fifty and maybe a 28mm and 135mm, were really expensive, so third party zooms looked really good value in their eyes.

Just got this today. After shooting lots of digital photography, I want to get into film. Currently trying to work out how to get scans of my negatives at home. I have a few Minolta lenses to go with this so choosing the body was a no brainer.

I bought one off eBay for a song the other day and didn’t clean it initially because the patina was so pretty. The brassing is gorgeous too, it’s tarnished and blended back in with the black paint. Paired with its original half-case and the film canisters the previous owner tied onto it probably 40+ years ago and its indescribably how this setup feels. It singled handedly cured my GAS.
