Same sort of feeling here, the weight of the shot pulls this one to the right however & while I find the store front shots cool there's nothing all that notable about this one

The fella walking in on the first image works as a bit of a subject, no such thing here here, the writing on the front is also less interesting. The first shot drew me to the aesthetic, not so much this one.

The top one with all its flaws still evokes a sense of atmosphere, the bottom one does not

Wish the shot was better exposed, took me a while to even notice the birds because their little band of light is as narrow.
I like that they're just silhouettes, that works wonderfully, but the extremely bright sky draws way too much attention.

I'd either go with a much wider crop, only taking in the ocean and bird strip or playing with levels a bit more.

I'm of the opinion however that the little bit of cloud in the middle of the sky only serves as a distraction. Would not be against clone brushing it away.

Agree with the anon in terms of aperture, I'm guessing the softness comes from diffraction rather than not adequate DoF, but I suppose it's not that bad of an aesthetic.

I do like the tower though, you could perhaps mask over it & increase the local contrast on the tower & wires. With a mask you'll keep the well textured field but get a bit more definition to the tower itself.

Though I wouldn't necessarily change anything

A bit messy, my eyes arn't really drawn to the subject all that well, though I suppose that could be the point. The person does seem to just want to hide.
The sky is absolutely oversaturated. I feel like the image tries to be grim but the colour palette isn't doing it any favours

As far as the drive through pic I was trying to go for creation of DavidxCoronavirus

Also we don't get Autumn or winter in PR just summer and less hot summer

Thanks for the critique my dude from what I gather I have to work on my composition/leading lines and go easy on the sliders

It's old digital technique. Latest two genenerations of sensors do this for you. There is no noise gain doing ettr anymore. At worst you'll end up with overexposed highlights, and best it'll be the same as if you bumped iso.

yeah, i wish i had a graduated filter to get more detail in the shadows. Anyway, took other photos with and without the sky and liked this better, with the sky balancing the "weight" of the foreground and giving some context and mood through its colors (sunset)

I like the pastel vibe of the sky and sea, but the sand looks like shit. White balance is a very important camera setting, hard if at all possible to correct in post, so get it right (usually auto + trims based on test shot works fine)

The subject could hardly get any more boring than the back of someone staring at the fretboard like he's just learning guitar (Imagine the same shot but with the guy having his head raised, like if he was singing, would look a lot different. This is fixed taking more photos of a subject, trying to anticipate when it will do something interesting.

Sometimes the mistakes are made at the moment of capture and there's little to do about it besides discard, learn and go on shooting. The composition isn't all that great either, too much sky.

anyone have advice for shooting architecture/environmental stuff when you are walking along and can't quite get a good angle on the subject? i'm thinking specifically of shots like this where you're shooting up and perspective distortion is very apparent

I like the golden yellow highlights here, feel like it could benefit from the bridge either being centered in perspective or shooting against one of the railings. just imo. great shots that lens' sharpness is really nice.

Not much thought, I went fishing at those falls today and I wanted to take some pictures before leaving so I could get some practice in today.

So I really wanted to try to get those nice smooth water effect from using slow shutter speeds on the water. I would say there's really no clear subject in those pictures and it's definitely something I was conscious of. you can see in the first picture I tried to use the pointy rock as a subject but it's definitely not that obvious.

What do you think of the post-processing/technical aspect of the photos?

A different pointer that comes to mind would be one regarding composition, I'd shoot lower down on the ground and probably wider, capture more of the marshland. There's just a lot of interest going on there. I'm drawn to it a whole lot more than the mountain in the back (which is hardly visible cause haze anyway).

Just the scene and the white balance make it seem more of a summery marshland shot than a clear skied mountain view.

I was trying to.
Critique used to be the reason people came here. Specifically honest critique instead of the asskissing you get on certain other sites.
My post asking anon about some very basic aspects of photography that I would think a newbie would want to focus on and learn about is far from the harsh treatment he'd have got here just a few years ago.
It doesn't seem to be what people want anymore, though, so I'll just leave you to yourselves and your snapshots.

I will not post a photo here. I never cared for posting my own pics in the RPT specifically because they very often don't get critique in such threads compared to a thread I make for myself.
Sorry that you felt I was trying to start shit, little buddy.

you can say this for virtually any camera in 2020. these are only iso 100/800, tripoded and downscaled.

I was using a 7D prior, and I'd have to bracket most shots like this. Now I can just be lazy and bring the exposure in some areas up +3 in light-room and you can't even tell. I almost almost shot 1-1.5 stops under with the R.

That said I think the interface / controls have some serious issues and if I could have my 7D controls with the EOS R Sensor I seriously consider it. (But maybe that's the 5D IV?)

How is the built-in HDR feature? Take some shots with that. I know it saves into jpeg but I'm still curious about it, especially as some phones also use auto-HDR as jpegs.

Neither, I don't give a damn about the motorcycle, I want to see a portrait of the people on it. That part shows the emotion and detail in a fairly """"timeless"""" way, the motocycle spoils that. The fast shutter does a good job with showing weather, but the motorcycle looks too frozen, feels like they're just going to tip to the side without any forward motion.

I would genuinely cut at the point where you show the handlebars but really shift focus to the faces, the tarp and the environment

something like this? i tried this crop first, and thought that the poncho looked pretty strange without the bike providing some context

the other problem with this tighter portrait crop is that while the girls outfit is super cool, the faces are in shadow. there's also the technical issue of iso noise but that's not relevant

Perhaps OP could go down to the knees, cut off on the bottom end of the fellas knee.
That gets you enough context to place them on a bike, you get the orange top fully shown and it's still intimate enough.

Otherwise I'm not bothered by the noise at all, the entire thing has a photojourno vibe anyways, reckon it adds more than it takes away

foreground is distracting.

I think the motorcycle is important but the shot could have been framed better to begin with. I refuse to believe this was the only angle available.

there was a great shot in there, but I don't think you can salvage this now.
