I mainly do B&W conversions using Niks Silver Efx plugin in Photoshop...which gives me a load of tools and control over the conversion...in my experience it gives me the best results. I also use a DxO ViewPoint plugin to correct perspective. Then some dodging and burning and maybe luminosity masks.
>Do you only use lightroom kind of edits? I use Camera Raw which lets you make the same edits as Lightroom but only use it to give me a nice base to start with before using Silver Efex. Correcting exposure, lens distortion, WB and some very light sharpening.
