The original image is shot with Fuji Velvia, which already has quite limited dynamic range compared to other films, estimated at about 4-5 stops. Pretty much any modern camera has above 12 stops of dynamic range. For example, the D850 has 14.8 stops of dynamic range, far exceeding any positive film.
Negative films have far more dynamic range than positive films, but probably still have lower dynamic range. I couldn't find any actual figures except a guy quoting 'he read somewhere' that provia has 17 stops, but that is of course without any source or explanation.
tl;dr The film used in this photograph definitely does not have a higher dynamic range than any modern digital camera.
