The conversation here has reminded me that I have this on the memory card. Cropped, shot from my house. I was so far away that they did not see me, I could move easily without being noticed, but this is the only acceptable photo of about 40.

It's a picture I made for my art history class. My goal was to "list" some objects attributed to the greek god Hades. In ancient greece, they used to call him during rituals by hitting the ground with a wooden stick. That's why I put it there. But I agree, I could have done better with the composition.
And yes, this is a piece of red meat. Red meat was often used as a sacrifice for Hades during rituals.

Besides what you've already mentioned, I slap on vintage 06, tone it down to around 50 to 70%, change the temperature to something warmer usually and add a bit of a purple tint. For the split toning, I always crank the balance to 100 and just adjust the color of the shadows to something green, or brown if the shot looks vintagy

Bro, whore yourself out to the struggling industries and market it as a favor. Retail and food service are getting absolutely fucked by COVID. This is your opportunity to make money in volume. "Hey guys! I'll take photos of your menu for $50!" And you stand in the expo window/pass and take a photo of every plate for an hour. Take a photo of retail interiors for the owners.

They're not looking for perfection, they're looking for something better than what they can do with their phone, and you should be able to do that easily. Don't slave over the retouching. Try to work on your technique so you can turn them over in 30 minutes. There's no reason why you couldn't be making a couple thousand a week with a little hustle and grit.

Your composition is great.
If your colors are due to processing that's probably the thing you're vibe-ing on as not quite right.
Just shoot and don't spend as much editing. You'll wind up taking more photos that way too, which seems to be your strength if your shots generally have anything in common with this one.

Wonderful layers, have to peep quite close to see the animals but they're really nice.
The town in the back could perhaps be a tiny bit better exposed, there's a few pretty dark spots that look somewhat muddy.

I think the out of focus foreground I like, just wish the leaves on the left maybe werent there, along with the sunflare they already draw a lot of weight to that side.

tldr; wish I could see the town and animals better even though I enjoy the foreground and layers leading down into the shot, but these two opinions arn't necessarily compatible with each other.

Have a shitty woodland smear 'cause I couldnt find any mushrooms

messy, I see what you were going for. there was probably a better angle you could have gotten. I'd have tried to isolate the cluster on the left more. or bump up the DOF to get all the clusters in focus.

It's pretty boring, sorry. There's nothing of interest really. No focal point, no interesting abstract composition, no interesting lighting or colours, no interesting viewpoint, no story. What are you trying to say or show with it?

Maybe you could have used your friends in the composition. Not necessarily staged, just like waited for a human moment and captured it in the context of your hike. Or if you are hiking for hours surely there would be something of interest along the way. Some unique view or growth of things, or a moment where the light was interesting.

A lot of potential here but they feel weird compositional to me. For >>3698795 the way the frame creates tangents on the left and bottom edges of the photo is very awkward. It also has a lot of dead space above that doesn't feel balanced well, and the guy in the background is distracting. Could you have maybe recomposed slightly and waited for the guy to walk out of frame? And for >>3698796 maybe taking two steps to the left to frame her head through the doorway. I also think like the other one the balance with the dead space at the bottom feels a bit awkward. Might be as simple as cropping to 5:7 and chopping some off the bottom, but maybe in the moment it could have been composed slightly differently.
