>>3697241I usually only find them within 20 minutes of sundown. Got lucky this year and found 2 about 100km apart. Have only found 6 of them in my life, so very happy with this year. Also found Great Horned, Short Eared, Snowy, and Barn Owl over the years. Haven't seen a Snowy in nearly a decade now, but did find Great Horned this spring.
Helps to recognize the type of areas they like, and also know their calls... you'll rarely hear an actual "hoot", more of a screech or chirp that sounds like a Starling or any other random bird. That's how I found this one.
