>>3693816So far no one has reported stills overheating the camera (i.e. getting so hot it turns off). But using the EVF and shooting stills will leave the camera hot, potentially too hot to switch to video.
At first I didn't think much of the overheating because nearly all hybrid mirrorless 4k cameras with oversampling will overheat at some point depending on ambient temps (XT3, XT4, anything Sony, the Panny's FF models without the fan). A lot of them have limits on paper similar to the R5/R6. But the overheating reports are becoming more and more worrisome. It's overheating in less time than Canon says and taking longer to cool off than competitors. If you leave an XT3 sitting for 10-15m it's ready to go again. Canon? You get like 3m of recording.
OTOH external recorders appear to make a big difference:

This sucks ass because the cameras are so damn good in other ways. It has really dampened my enthusiasm for the R6 which I wanted to add to my DSLRs as a backup stills body/primary video body. Now if an ext recorder solves overheating on the R6 I may still get it. But holy fuck this was a screw up by Canon. You expect this shit from Sony, not Canon.
