But yes, for the most part this is true as long as you don't have a consoomer model like D3xxx/D5xxx or anything else that only takes G-series lenses. None of this matters if you're doing astro and use infinity focus for everything, I shot the Neowise comet on a 50 f1.2 on D5600 in full manual and got a sharp good image.
What you pay extra to get stuff like the Df, D4/5 etc. you make up for in being able to use cheap awesome AF-D lenses.
