Yes they are not the same film. 800 is an older formula and generally people say 400 pushed 1 stop gives better results.

Yeah but probably not worth the price (depending on what prices you find).
The 800 variant has a bit more shadow detail but of course higher grain.
All this is fine print, the practical considerations are cost and contrast - the 800 has lower contrast to begin with and more so compared with pushed 400c which is nice as in having yet another option.

I think the key difference is that I would rather shoot portra 800 at 16 than 400 so if it’s speed your after it’s the better choice. Tbh I don’t know why people hate on 800 so much.

Idk how you Germans get those prices for kodak. My Walmart only has the 3 pack fuji superia 400 for $20 on the east coast. Better than the Canadian prices though.

I might add: I always buy about 3-4 packs at the start of each month because these are sold out very quickly and restocking takes a while.
Luckily developing a roll + 9*13 prints + negs only roughly costs 4.20€.

Another thing to add: A comment says that they don't restock these packs anymore which is wrong. There was a big scare a month or two ago when restocking took longer than usual, so people started slinging these packs on eBay for 15€ per unit - so that's probably why some people are spooked. But they definitely get restocked. You can't buy them online though. Not sure if you ever could.
