So what? There's loads of restaurants that make great food that isn't original. I don't sit down to eat a good meal and then get turned off because it tastes very similar to other good meals I've eaten before. I don't know if that sounds too silly or makes sense, but ultimately, I think too many people are fixated on being "special". I'll always enjoy a well shot photo to some degree, no matter how much it looks like something else I saw.

It’s a really nice image to look at, nophoto commenters are the worst. There’s one thing that bugs me about it, maybe it’s vignetting, but it looks like contrast masking issue at the top left of the mountain and the sky, when you’re trying to keep the sky at a level you want and not too bright, or some serious local contrast enhancing. Not particularly noticeable and normies would never notice.

Nophoto larpers take issue with anyone posting photos that makes them feel threatened, low end beginner photos are fine, but when there’s a photo posted that starts to show even the most modicum of skill they get upset and give out unsolicited backhanded “criticism”, when it’s rejected they get even more upset.

It triggers jealousy and feelings of inadequacy and threatens their superiority complex. Editing, compositing, or anything to improve or enhance a shot like that does as well.

There are people like religious zealots who get upset about other people’s photos for the fact they’re not taken the way they believe photos should be taken, it is not enough for them to take photos that way, but everyone’s has to as well, everything should be plain and completely neutral.

/p/ in general takes issue with any kind of fabrication, so compositing and healing. These are tools for people who make photos rather than take them. In a lot of photography there's this idea that unless you're doing a staged shoot you should avoid interfering with the scene, that photos of things as you found them are the purest stylistically. Compositing and healing go far beyond this taboo and make photographs that didn't actually happen at all. At that point you risk crossing over into a different medium entirely. These methods are where most posters draw the line. Quite a few go so far as to decry cropping, stating that it is a crutch that makes up for poor composition in the field.

Then there is a smaller subset of posters here who adamantly refuse to post process their images at all, shooting JPG and allowing the camera to post process for them.

And of course, astrophotographers and macro photographers generally are afforded some exceptions stylistically to their post processing methods due to the slow and technical nature of their shooting. Stuff like focus stacking becomes downright necessary for a lot of shots.

Anyone can apply a whole heap of rules to themselves (e.g. no crop, jpg only, no post processing etc) but that just screams crutch to me. People judge images based on their merit not on how """pure""" a photo is. This is the photographic equivalent of the Appeal to Nature fallacy.

ehhhh people will have the debate over whether to be a good photographer is to master the scene in front of you, or to deliver the slickest end product you can via editing. it gets into some of the more philosophical aspects of it and i'm not going to make the case for one over the other here.

i think the other poster was exaggerating quite a bit about the extent of those views on here. most people aren't going to give a shit what you did in editing unless you did a poor enough job that they think to call it into question.

but that said there's stuff like the extreme end of compositing where you're replacing the sky with stock images, adding weather effects that weren't there in the scene, shit like that. that stuff is much more controversial broadly speaking.

It's kitsch with minor mistakes on top of a great shot. The shot stands out for a pretty good composition and highlighting, whether conscious or just following trends/a foreign shot.

For image composition, it is a central point perspective, not just v shaped but also vertically very symmetric (in total x-shaped), the red color blob makes the strongest color contrast, the highest highlights are horizontal with spray and vertical with some paintbrush both around the center. Through the meme Canoe a landscape photo manages to have an obvious motif. Stylistic techniques are well used here, all tangling around the center point, especially in a genre that does not make use of DOF and is vastly restricted to existing shapes and perspectives.
In all my respect, I think either that you are more clueless than you think or that you want to have a say in a place where you don't want to have any sympathy right from the start.
Obligatory, think here of a mandatory 4chan dignified insult, if you want. I have a certain expectation that a dignified insult will come back for me too.

I agree for the reasons you’ve listed. It’s technically very good, and uses simple but effective compositional techniques - it does lack layering but not every shot needs this. “Trash” was just facetious echoing of the other anon.
What it misses is any impact beyond the visual, but that would be anathema to the intended audience.
