/K/ommando dropping by. I want to get a nice camera to take cool pictures of my guns. My budget is $600. What would you guys recommend?

You're gonna have trouble getting the whole gun in focus. How about a go pro action cam you can mount to the gun.

it more depends on lighting and setting you should be focusing on. Even a simple continuous light source like a desktop lamp with a wood slat table and some rags would go far for maximising the potential of a phone camera.

Even with something like an Iphone 6 its fairly capable with good light. With the right angles and lighting arrangements you can force the tiny sensor to make a good appearance of depth of field. If youre bent on a camera though, anything sub 300 dollars with an APS-C sensor will do everything you want and more, so a 2010-2015 Rebel Canon would do fine. Canon EOS M is good too, a basic camera with lens interchangeability.

Nikon D5600 the kit lens is everything you need to take pics of your guns and it does low light fairly well.

And best of all, it weighs nothing.

OP here. I drove 2 hours and got a Sony A7 II from BestBuy with a 28-70 kit lens for $819.99 (open box).

It was missing dust covers but those were like $5. I like it a lot. Here's one of the photos I took today.

Try a bit brighter light when it’s earlier In the day to get ISO a bit lower, maybe learn your gun up on something like against a nice wooden cabin or tree or something so it looks interesting

That's definitely more interesting, composition-wise, but now you've got a dark gun on a dark backdrop. It's lacking contrast between the subject and the background

See that tree on the left with leaves growing up it? Something like that if you’re got another somewhere, and isolate the tree, leaves and gun, perhaps portrait orientation, also shoot from further back so you can zoom all the way in.

Canon 5d mark ii is cheap with a 50mm 1.4 and you'll get some aesthetic shots imo.

Shooting still, inanimate objects means you can use shoot at a much slower speed, low ISO for a properly exposed and clean images, even at f/5.6 or higher.

You can get some neat shots even with low light conditions.
