>>3706856I own the 35 J12 and a 50/2 J8 lens
The J12, wonderful lens. You're going to love it, just be mindful of the protruding rear element. All Jupiter lenses are Zeiss copies, the 35 is a Biotar copy. It's a sharp lens but the far-edge corners are soft anything below f/4.
The J8 is stellar. Say what you will about Communism they were really good at optics, or at least copying them from the Germans. Sharp all across. The J3 is nice but difficult to nail focus on and needs to be calibrated properly to work on Soviet cams. I had to re-cal my FED-2 to work with my J8 properly, which needed to be done anyway not just for the J8 but with the purchase of better glass the calibration was due,
With Soviet Jupiter lenses, the first two numbers are the year it was made, example, my 135/4 is SN #6400438 which makes it the 438th 135/4 made in 1964. You want pre-1970 because the QC was better. The later lenses are okay, you just have a better chance of a good copy pre-1970. Get a red "P" lens, which on the front of the lens looks like "п", because it's Cyrillic. Red P lenses are coated for color film.

May I also recommend, if you got some extra cash, the Voigtlander 15 f4.5 UWA for m39. I have one. Yes, it's about 300 bucks. You won't find an UWA for any RF camera that cheap and the IQ on it is top fucking notch. It's a great walkaround too in the city for close-quarters.
