What is the next tier of camera worth getting/upgrading to if you own a A7R2? I am looking for an exponential leap.

There is none yet. But, the A7rIV has much better AF system, eye AF, real time eye and object tracking, so if you’re shooting portraits, wild life, spying on people with a telephoto etc then it’s an exponential leap forward in AF quality over second gen.

If you just want more detail in landscapes, then just use a slightly longer focal length and make a panorama

a7rIV imo. Even the a7iii was a huge improvement over the R2 but you might miss the big resolution.

Recently bought a used A7R3. Upgrade from 5 years or so on the original A7R. I tried the 2 and it wasnt worth it. I shoot old canon new fds on it and the 2 had shit viewfinder.

If you want a new system right now get the R3 but the 4 isnt worth it. Very few people will benefit from the extra MP resolution, focus and shooting advantage which is what you are paying for.

You already have the 2 so wait until the next model after the 4 to come out. It will take the best of the a9, a7s3 and a7r4 and then decide if you want to pay premium for animal anus focus in 20k or get a cheap 3r or 4r at used price.

There is literally no exponential leap, not even minimal leap unless you go for medium format.

The only thing you can improve is battery and focus speed. Which the a7riii and a7riv solved. But as for image quality you are not getting much even if you upgrade to a7riv.

Just buy better lenses. Or better yet, dont buy anything and learn how to use your fucking camera.
