Do you guys print ?
if so, do you use third party inks and get proper prints ?
my problem was that i bought the cheap inks off amazon...the prints were good if not perfect
except for BW ones..they all had a blue tint all over just like a cyanotype almost
i wasted almost 100 sheets epson papers with all color managements profiles etc
they all came out the same

please give some usefull advices...i want to print again but can't afford the genuine inks :(

Yes. 17x22 portfolios and display prints on an Epson 3880.

I won't try 3rd party inks in my photo printer. The 3880 has huge tanks for ink and they're cost effective as is. I know that other printers in Epson's line can be expensive on ink though.

How much did you lose trying to make 3rd party inks work? Use genuine Epson ink.

i bought the xp900 from the warehouse (used)
i installed the third party inks from amazon
the BW prints were terrible ( blue cast all over)
luckily i was able to give it back and recieve my money again

i just don't know if it was caused by the 1) pre-owner who messed up the printer heads or 2) 3rd party inks don't work at all for pure BW prints

The xp900 doesn't have grey inks so it's probably going to struggle with B&W. That said 3rd party inks could have easily made it worse.

probably that's why as you said....which printer can you suggest ?
i can look up for used ones...it's common here that businesses and offices getting rid off theirs most of the time in good conditions
oh and iam sure i will still use 3rd party inks lol

I'm in the fine art reproduction business. If the print is too blue just add some yellow in photoshop. Depending on printer model even in the high end large format printing not all have dedicated black inks to get a perfect black in white photo. You need to play with RGB in photoshop to get the perfect black and white print.

When I bought my 3880 the 17" printers in Epson's pro line were the cheapest models to support truly cost effective ink tanks. Unfortunately their prices have gone up, but they still print forever. I don't know if smaller printers supported this, but the 3880 also had grey inks for neutral B&W prints.

I can't say enough good things about the 3880 if you can find one used. That said, a full ink set runs nearly $600 from B&H.

i just got myself the spyder3 set
monitor + printer calibrater but gave the printer away before it recieved...

here's the strange thing though
every option gave me the same result except for this program called epson print layout....when i picked "normal paper" it gave me absolutely pure black & white but catastrophic quality...so nothing helped lol
i might use my printer calibrator next time when i purchase an epson printer

It's a lot more difficult. I used to play with black-only ink drivers on the Epson R800. Was never thrilled with them. With the Epson 3880 I get neutral B&W prints straight out of printer using Epson's Advanced B&W mode.

You might be able to setup a cheaper printer with a 3rd party dedicated B&W ink set. I've never gone that route but in theory, once setup properly, it should give neutral B&W.

Iam kinda lost in life desu...i've never felt more insecure than the recent days...no job no money no friends and it all getting too much for me...but hey atleast iam wishing to have a good printer and not the latest sony alpha something..

your photos are very soulful anon. I can see you studied the style of many masters. however one thing I'll say is that I'm not a big fan on how you flex that you shoot film by leaving the neg borders on I think it distracts from the main subject.
