If it’s cheap and you’re poor. Back in the day I had a 30D which I stuck for ages, and managed to get a Mamiya RB67. The economics were flipped then, the 30D was 2200 AUD for the body when I first got it, and the RB67 wasn’t that expensive.

Now that shit costs a lot more and digital has advanced too much.

Deliberate consideration on what you shoot because you are limited on frames and developing costs money. Unlike digital where capital investment of camera and memory card happens once, film is a constant operational expense of film and development costs but can teach you how to be a better photographer I guess.

Stylistic differences

With film you need to have very careful consideration (giving a lot more weight to each shot)

One that'd I'd like to though in is that they require skill to operate. All prosumer and professional digital camera modes have an auto setting works really well almost all of the time. Film is different. Most decent 35mm and all medium and large format cameras are fully manual. It takes skill to operate these cameras.

Most of the stupid niggers on this shit that shoot digital wouldn't know what the hell to do with my hasselblad 500c. They don't know to meter or properly expose a shot.

Gunna call bullshit on this. It does not take skill to understand how a built-in camera meter works. It does not take skill to use a handheld meter and click a button to give you a reading. Literally 5 minutes of reading a manual is all you need. Why filmfags think they're super smart because they know how to do these things is hilarious.

Unless, like most filmfags, they just shoot Portra at +2. You could set your camera to what the fuck ever at that point and get images that more or less look good.

I will say LF is fantastic if it's use case is for you. Haven't found a full alternative to it on digital and if it ever exists it will cost way too much.

no that other guy. but AP has its uses. I like to use it in low light situation. keeps me from messing around with the iso wheel too much.but otherwise when the light is fairly stable manual is the way to go.

In the case of rangefinders, film handles optics better.

Leica writes about comparing their digital sensors to others:

The problem with this comes with wide angle lenses (which are pretty much the main staple of the rangefinder camera). Towards the corner of the frame the angle of incidence of the light rays coming from the rear of the lens can be so severely off-perpendicular that they won't pass equally through the microlenses above the sensor, which can lead to fairly strong vignetting. Even a modest wide angle lens at this kind of distance could produce a difference of a stop or two between the center of the frame and the edges using a standard sensor.

This is part of why the same lens in attached pic makes such a shit picture on a Sony A7 compared to when it's mounted on a Leica. The Sony sensor is adapted to rays with a steeper angle of incidence.

Film doesn't have this problem since its "sensing" doesn't work like that.

when in AP, I have my exposure setting on a dial so I shoot pretty much the same way I would shoot manual. It just makes it control more than just the shutter speed. Which is normally what I use to control my exposure in manual.
