I don't care. I will keep using my 7 year old camera until 2030. By that time global shutter will be standard and everyone will be switching to new lens mounts and cameras with curved sensors.

The mounts already are future proof for curved sensors.

You can even use old lenses for your curved sensor, you will just get factor 10 trillion field curvature in the corners.

Form what I've read for noise an dr, the R6 performs worse than the R5 and both do already perform noise reduction at base iso.
Basically this is the Volkswagen test chart scheme.

Please tell me more anons. This is the first I have heard of this. I have seen a few old film cameras with a curved back plate for the film but never a curved sensor. Is there some advantage to this?

See the image and trace the lines.
The corner performance normally suffers because the light comes from opposite diagonal, so corners will always be hit by non-vertical light.

Current generation of optics are big and complex to ensure corner sharpness.
But with curved sensors...

Massively simplified lenses. Look up the various patents of lenses for curved sensors, many of them only consist of 4-8 elements.

Every lens can become as simple as the 50mm Double gauss design.

I'm not so sure how much there is to research, it should be simple to understand why the corner is improved when you understand
-light from the bottom hits top of the sensor.
-light from the top hits bottom of the sensor.
-light from the left hits right of the sensor.
-light from the right hits left of the sensor.

-High quality lenses also depend on high quality sensors. Could it be that Sony had an easier game to score well? Will the R5 improve Canon lens score dramatically? What's with other manufacturers and formats?
-Currently sensors are not curved and the angle of incident that's still recorded depends on the depth of the pixel well and accommodating micro lenses. Are there any numbers on this? Where? Do microlenses already grant that no light is blocked anyway?
-Why do manufacturers apply persistent noise reduction to raw files? Don't they trust raw conversion? Is it just to appeal to scores?
