Hard pass. Lenses, AF, etc. I do have to say I did like on their last camera that they can do raw video direct to ssd via USBC, totally bypassing hdmi recorder costs etc. I guess other companies might not do that as itd make Atomos etc pointless.

Yeah, I’d honestly like to see that usbc to ssd feature on other cameras, I don’t know why they don’t do it, I never thought of it prior to Panasonic doing it in that recent camera.

No, the S1 and S1H were the first. They are truly excellent cameras and offer several features that no one else does.

I think Sony likely makes their sensors.

That thing is useless for video if you want to use autofocus. All that 10bit 4:2:2 wont compensate for the shity jerky autofocus that keeps pumping up and down like a crack addict. Smooth autofocus all that counts. Here Canon is the Masterrace with the dual pixel autofocus. Sony comes at second, and all else is jerky crackaddict autofocus. If you use only Manual Focus for video then get a Blackmagic 6k. If you use it for Photo then its fine, pair it with a Leica APO Summicron 50mm and enjoy the Masterrace optics of Leica.

Panasonic is doing really well globally. It's not much that you need much from dedicated vid cam. Put on a dumb RF converter for manual lenses and you've the biggest lens lineup out there.

Depends on your definition of "really well" I guess.

They are only 4,7% of the total market, same size as Fujifilm.
But this has more to do with m4/3 than with L-mount. Panasonic L-mount is very much ded.

L mount is bigger than Nikon's f mount and gaining traction. M43 is still selling well, well positioned as being mirrorless, and they don't have any dead weight in dslr still to offload.

The budget cinema camera to beat right now is the X-T3. For the price difference versus the X-T4 you can buy a gimbal.

Yeah, this Panny has a FF sensor but the 4k IQ is so good out of the X-T3 that it's honestly close to a wash.

Why would you want a FF sensor for your videography to begin with? I understand there's lowlight performance but realistically with controlled lighting there shouldn't be much of an advantage using FF over APS-C for video. Ultimately things like DR and IQ are completely out of the window due to how video doesn't compare to stills quality at all.

It's a good time to buy an S1. Basically the exact same camera but larger and no front-facing screen. I set up ebay alerts when the spec sheet for the S5 leaked and sure enough, some guy immediately listed his S1 with the paid firmware upgrade AND the 24-105 for just under $2k. Maybe I'm the chump in that scenario but I literally never use AF, and I'm not a vlogger so I don't care about a front facing screen. Also appreciate the heftiness of it because it stabilises my large, spastic, shaky hands. It's my first FF and I'm loving everything about it so far.

The S1 is the better built, nicer feeling camera, like a piece of professional gear.

I think Panasonic took a page out of Sony's playbook and made the S5 cheaper because the a7 series feel like flimsy toys and sell though the roof because of the video specs.
