Do I need a 70-300 for travel/landscape?

I have a 18-55mm kit lens and a 35mm 1.8 prime. Using a D3400. The 70-300 VR is €350 which will hurt me but reviews are great. The 35 is great for city but 70-300 would give me a lot of flexibility for landscape framing. I'll be travelling with a tripod always

Why not an older and cheaper 70-200/210? You don’t need VR with a tripod.

Look at used lenses, anon. A couple of weeks ago I got a used 70-200 VR for the equivalent of 50 EUR. Gonna take it this weekend to a woodsy area, hyped. Faceberg marketplace is great for this as it has centralized people's life and interactions. That's how I got my D5300 with lenskit and bag for 200 EUR as well. Protip: look at people selling camera + lenses, ask if they'd sell the lens you're interested in, most of the time it'll be cheaper than someone selling that one lens only.

Not a Nikon guy but a 70-300 was the first lens I bought for my T6i besides the kit lens.
I got the Sigma APO DG, don't think it's made anymore. It's kinda meh but it was cheap, and it takes good pictures. Like the build quality is just OK and it lens creeps like hell but then I look back in post and I'm like, damn this lens OWNED that trip. It's like an AK-47 or something. Real simple, kinda crappy, but it gets the job done. I could have spent more, and some day I'll upgrade to a nice L glass telephoto with the white paint but till then this is fine.

I paid like 160 bucks for it brand new it was NOT an expensive lens, but it gets the job done.

pic related was also taken with it, focus stacked but still not bad IQ for a cheap ass lens on a basic body.

Would I be able to use it freehand at 200+ if it has VR ? Or would that only work with very high shutter times?
