>>3725151If you don’t need ttl look for the Godox V850ii, same as V860ii but no ttl. The lithium battery versions are much better for recycle time.
Softbox is much better I have 90cm and 120cm Godox octabox I got cheap, BUT, they pull over light stands in light wind, when stands are weighed down I’ve had the 120cm box actually shear and tear the top pole of a stand in half because of light wind. If is a giant sail and produces a lot of torque from a little force.
Indoors, definitely softbox, especially since they can be gridded and dont reflect and spill on walls behind them and reflect all over the place.
Outdoors for me it’s still softboxes and I work with it, but umbrellas won’t have spill outdoors and not put as much force on a light stand from wind and quicker to set up, unless you get the instant pop up softbox which I’ve got one now, Godox or another chink one cheaply from taobao.
Just remember that if you want actual soft light (soft shadows) and your light source is say 90cm across, then put it 90cm or closer to the subjects face.
Hence why 120cm is better lmao, it’s a rabbit hole, you see youtubers putting them 3 metres away but that’s not soft desu, but that works alright for filling in shadows of multi light.
You can get a “soft” type of look with a hard light if their face is pointed towards the light, there is nothing to cast shadows, but if you turn the models face even slightly away so they nose casts a shadow it’s a hard shadow.
