I paid $25.60 to get one roll of film developed and scanned. no prints or other services. Was I ripped off? what do you pay?

Depending on your location and country this is pretty normal.

I pay €6 for development (C-41) and scan them myself. Otherwise it would be about €17/roll

The shit with letting it get scanned is that they will deliver 8-bit files (in a lossy format usually). So you can't edit shit without loss of quality... Thats why I scan them myself (Pakon F-150)

All stores seem to understand shit about making proper workable scans haha

If that includes shipping both ways, was only one roll (so no savings on shipping) and you got full 4K/8K scans out of it on a Noritsu then unfortunately that’s about the going rate.

If you want dirt cheap development thats also piss simple then look into shooting b&w film and developing using cinestill's d96 monobath developer.

Its not as cheap per roll as the multiple bath options but you basically need 2 items, 3 if you dont have a room without windows.

Those items are: the chemicals (comes in a bottle, no mixing required), a development tank (can be found at thrift stores and such) and at last a darkbag if you dont have a dark room.

Oh and film flatbed scanners can be found at thrift stores too. I got my epson v200 for 15 bux.

This so much. Monobaths are a solution to a problem that doesnt exist. Dev, tapwater, fix, tapwater - how that is too difficult for people I cannot comprehend. Ofcourse its nice to sell monobaths that are as expensive as the most expensive traditional developers but have much shorter shelf life...

What res do they give you? I’d pay an additional $5 if they gave full res Norits/Frontier scans for a local place to do it. Problem is the closest places to me are all an hour away and they don’t offer massive 30MB scans

not him, but you drop it off at DM and they ship it to CeWe. Development costs ~1eur for C-41 and ~2eur for E-6. At a local fotolab I paid 5eur for 1h development, but it's not like they use other machines/chemistry than CeWe anyway.

yo how the fuck do i use this correctly ?
i put in more than 1:200, leave it in for 2 min (agitate too)
and the scans still have big ass watermarks all over.....
i fucking hate this....next time i will use flo and squeegee it additionally
so i get faster drying atleast

I use a big salad bowl, fill it half with water, drop a few spurts of flo in and dump the film there. I then let it sit for around a minute and then clamp and lift to dry. No squeegee or anything. Works 70% time, sometimes get drying marks. I then just use the humid of my breath and a cloth on the negs that need to be pristine. I dont give a shit.

I use walmart, they give me physical photo copies (5x7 i think) plus a cd with the photos on it for around 13-17$? It works for me since i do analog sparingly

Get a spray bottle and some destilled water. After the final wash you just spray the film with distilled water several times. I haven't gotten any watermarks since I started doing this.

Home dev and DSLR scanning saves so much money in the long run, it's really not even worth going to a lab anymore.

For an initial investment of around 150 USD, I got a home darkroom setup with a changing bag, paterson tank, 6 airtight bottles (3 for b/w chems & 3 color chems), a cheap-ass sous vide heater that was already at home, a cheap LED light table and an old takumar 50mm macro lens that I adapt to a FujiXT2.

It costs $6 here for straight developing. If it is a Fuji negative film, it is done in an hour. Anything else takes three days to a week (they wont run anything else through the Fuji machines).

Scans are an extra $5, but are pretty low quality (one is attached at full resolution). I tend to just bring them home and scan with my Plustek 8200 ai (which I have just about broken even on with saved money from scan costs).

I work at a camera store in Toronto where we, for example, do 36 exposure C-41 developing + JPEG scans + 4x6" prints for 18.25$ CAD.
And around 25$ if you were to get TIFF scans rather than JPEG (and 36$ for XTRA HI-RES TIFF).
So 25.60 for just developing sounds a little pricy, yes.

I just started stand developing in Ilfosol 3 mixed at 1+29. HP5 in 20 degree for 70 minutes. So far the negatives have turned out fine. I was going through my camera shit and found a mystery bulk roll in a loader and an unopened old bottle of Ilfosol 3 so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Yes, I pay 5,- eurobucks for developing E6, C41 and BW and if I Pushed or pulled my film it's 1,- extra. Scanning cost me 10 euro per roll.

Never use the scanning service because I do it at home unless it's for a more important project.

I post my film from the UK to Darkroom8, Kuala Lumpur. It costs me about £6.60 for postage (economy, which takes 2 to 3 weeks) then about £2.75 per roll. This is the cheapest that I've found.

I bought a medium format camera only to discover that all local labs can high rez scan 135 at 7500px on long side whilst 120 high rez scans are 5500px on long side
