>>3725780Oof, that's a big subject.
New York is really five cities in one, and it's a far, far larger place than you might realize. Even Manhattan, which is really just a tiny 59 square kilometer island, is incredibly dense with architecture, people, culture, language. There are 2900 city blocks just in manhattan, all with their own feel, and there are many magnitudes more spread out through the rest of the city. Brooklyn, on its own, would still be the third largest city in the United States.
So yeah. It's a big fuckin' city and you won't likely see even 10% of it on your trip. However, Manhattan is where you should spend most of your time, and it will be time well spent. It's wall-to-wall landmarks, and the sheer density and diversity is amazing, especially if you come from a small yuropeen country with tons of homogeneity.
Buy a 1-week metrocard and take the subway to get around the city. Let people get off the train before you get on. Don't stand in the middle of sidewalks. Walking in New York is amazing too, but you will. walk. a lot. It's not difficult to walk 20 miles in one day and not realize it. Everyone jaywalks, but be careful and check for yourself. Realize that in some parts of the city, there are so many pedestrians that there is literally foot traffic. Be mindful of how much space you occupy. The museums are great, though in all honestly Europe has better art. Eat all the food. New York has the most diverse and best food scene in the entire goddamned world. You can get literally everything there. Brooklyn is great too, but has fewer high rises and is more residential.
I dunno, I could go on for days. Just go and have fun!
