I gotten one of these a while bak for my x100 but its hard to take pics with it. How do i get good with direct flash photography

You stop doing direct flash photography because it will always look like disposeable camera pics.

Camera in one hand, flash in the other, or on a tripod and for gods sake use a diffuser

Exceptions to this are indoors where you just point the flash straight up and bounce diffuse light from the ceiling

just for you I'm gonna do direct flash exclusively, even though I just got an off-camera flash. The R-D1 will trigger it on camera, but not wirelessly. I'll figure that out later or use it on a different camera for now.

if you open the aperture wider and adjust your focus further out you can get the closer orbs to be larger or smaller depending on taste

you dont need that fast of a shutter speed to capture slow moving snowflakes so there's a lot of room to experiment

personally I just set f8 1/1 flash with 1/35 shutter speed and just crank the iso and just shoot away

Wrong. Film cameras are notoriously prone to becoming unfixable, or at least so expensive it doesn't make sense to fix them.

I have an autistic guy who fixes all my seiko shutters for 25 bucks over the weekend.
Kid, if you cant shoot film and have to resort to digital its on you. Dont discourage people more capable than your sorry ass. Also, i have fixed an „unfixable” error on my eos3 with an eraser.

It's not the best, but it is my favorite. There are resources online. Fairly confident in fixing it myself if I can but another one for spare parts. If not, then this one still had sentimental value. If it dies, that's my excuse to buy the Leica I wanted anyway.

That was at a discount too btw, normally it's like €170.
In my mind it seemed like a fun thing to have for snapshits with my xpro while hanging with friends but the novelty wore off quickly.
Taking my rx100 along instead was way more practical really.

This is exactly why someone would pay for this but they just fucked up the execution so bad.

A smol flash to put in your pocket during street or ubrex shooting for when you just need a lil more light, or wanna capture that terry frontal fill flash look.

BUt this thing is literally the worst piece of photographic equipment ive ever used, besides the nikon key missions.

Basically you have a leaf shutter so use it. Crank that sucker up to 1/4000 to increase the ratio of flash light to ambient light. All the shots i posted were broad daylight.

Just go for it and embrace the look. If you do it at close range the on camera flash just looks nostalgic.
