Said hiring doesn't mean strictly event photo but any kind of work, obviously i wouldn't care about the looks of any plumber unless he looked like a ghetto rat or came dressed in an italian suit.
If we move the goal posts towards event photo, then sure, probably i would agree i don't need a neurotic tattooed monkey dressed in weed gown but the social/talkative skills here don't mean anything, i want the guy to shoot not chat and guests/event attendees rarely talk to the protog anyways. Although i also agree that i wouldn't like the guy behaving like a fucking buffalo, but schizos are easily spotted anyways, they don't shoot cameras with interchangeable lenses.
