Indoor "studio" color temps?

/p/ros, I'm trying to setup an indoor "studio" (basically my office) where I could take some photos and video and I need to buy some lights. One of the first decisions I'll have to make is picking the consistent color temperature. I've read that I should pick one and stick with it. Is that true?
Also, which color temp should I choose? Something warmer or colder? How do you decide? Does it even matter since every camera has AWB and you can use a color picker in any RAW editor...

I subscribe OPs question and add one: does LED lighting produce the same flickering/banding as halogens at high shutter speeds? Talking about stills, not video.

depends on the pwm dimming frequencies in the light
most made for photo and video don't flicker up to very high shutter speeds at every dimmer setting
some hardware store leds flicker at all shutter speeds depending on the dimmer setting
you need to test unless you're buying pro video stuff

in my room I have 4 LED light bulbs and I don't see them flickering with my eyes but when I use my camera, at certain SS I see banding.

it's the standard temp for studio daylight lamps
all strobes, HMIs and daylight LEDs are 5500K

if you're going to white balance against it, then what difference does it make? actual question mostly retarded but also seriously don't know what the difference would be. i figure the key here is to have consistent temperature throughout the space.... so the ambient lighting matches your strobes, etc. but that's probably why i am so fat.

Well looking at 5000 then 6000 in the OP picture it’s the closest thing to neutral light color.

Yeah. It’s kinda stupid tho cause there’s really no thing as like perfect white daytime sunlight. Like shooting on the street for example that light had already gone through a bunch of pollution and bounced off a bunch of buildings before getting to your subject. It’s why the straw gel exists.

That's actually an excellent question. I understand that having different coluor lights might give you some weird colour calibration problems but if they're all the same, any decent RAW developer will let you balance it properly. Even recent cameras will get it right in auto mode.

I've been looking at ceiling lights and it's impossible to find lights that are 5500k and have a CRI >90.

Same. I've been looking at various options and was hoping to find something in the 2'x2' format but they're all crap when it comes to quality of light.
I can't even find good LEDs in "light bulb" formats.

I hear this often and without further explanation that this is as right as it is wrong. For example, Canon flash guns are set to 6000K. And anyway, depending on the situation, extremely warm and cold temperature strobes make perfect sense.

So the whole issue may well be overdone, at least, if you're in a single display setup.
