Only one color

Lately I've edited a lot of my pictures using only one color. I think this highlights details in the picture that might have been lost otherwise. Do anyone else use this technique? Heres an example.

it's only useful if you want to show that the cute little blonde girl is later one corpse among many during the holocaust.

otherwise, it's about as bad and in poor taste as fake god rays and a composited-in moon. you should use actual lighting, composition, and careful use of color to guide the eye. this is unsubtle, unrefined, careless, a crutch.

pretty much this but do your own thing OP. They say the same with HDR, teal and orange etc. but if you like it, go for it. Everyone interested in photography should at least give HDR a try. It's like shooting the moon. Experiment, shoot what you want and have fun. In my case people don't care much about my photographs so I just shoot and edit.

its really kitsch and cliche, a hallmark of amateur photographers. Alot of first time wedding photographers will do this too since its so simple to do (ie, the red shoes closeup on a monochrome)

I would recommend avoiding it

You're not wrong but there's nothing to be gained in outright avoiding something. If this technique appeals to OP (as it very clearly does) then it's better for them to exhaust all of the possibilities present with it and move on naturally. Kneejerk avoidance generally only yields hypercritical snobbishness.

I've only ever done it with 2 pics I think.
One was my 4yo on a swing wearing all blue, was kinda cutesy.
Other one attached.
It was taken after a storm, so the water was basically grey/brown. Black and white bird.
The only colour that stood out was it's beak, so here we are.
