So I was at Best Bit when I tried out the Alpha series cameras on display. I don’t know what they get so much shit because they feel really good to use. Is it worth buying the A6000 right now at less than 600 dollars? I kinda dig it.

Because not only is it Sony, it’s also APS-C instead of FF, so it’s a direct competitor to Fuji, so it needs to be slandered into oblivion at every chance. Hell even in threads that don’t have the slightest thing to do with Sony will end up with anti-Sony posts.

In regards to the A6000 if you want that specific model, I’d get it second hand and save some money. Or shop around for a newer model at that price point.

They're pretty good cameras.
I'm not a brand whore and have a variety incl. Sony.
What really shits me with the Sony is the "touch screen" is only partially functional.
If it wasn't for that, I'd have more of them.
I hear they've fixed that now, but I've moved on unfortunately.
Still use one for sports because the auto focus can't be beaten.
Also the inability to use some functions at the same time really shits me. Eg. bracket exposure + delay can't be used at the same time. For me, that's a deal breaker for most of what I do, so it's sports only.
There's always a workaround though, and overall I think they're pretty damn good.

Because the spec sheet and tiny size draws you, and you think hey this is a great camera.
And then you start to use the fucking thing.
And you discover things that aren't on the spec sheet.
Like its fucking clumsy, and goddamn fucking awful user interface.
Constantly fucking getting in the way when you're trying to take photos.
Honestly the fucking piece of shit got in between intent and execution so goddamn much it almost made me quit photography.
And then the colors, every goddamn fucking photo needs time in post tweaking raw files to get it to a pleasing base state. Honestly everyone is right when they say sony colours might be "accurate" but unless you're a museum archivist that's not what you want.
Sold it for a Fuji and been happy as a pig in shit since.
Don't get memed like me. Yes the spec sheet and size are appealing, but as a camera, fuck that piece of shit.

WHY CAN'T I TAKE A BRACKET SHOT WITH A 2sec DELAY, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!
They'd be good if it wasn't for all this shit.
Dysfunctional touch screen. Fucked menus. Mutually exclusive functions.
Auto focus is great, I still use a Sony for sports.
But I die a little inside every time I pick it up knowing I'm going to use it that day.
And my screen has fingerprints all over it where Something Should Have Happened before I had to go back to the dial and arrows.

*One thing good is having a Sony forced me into RAW images. The JPEG is so shit it's completely worthless.
Genuinely improved my images because of this.

What are you using now?
I took the path less travelled and went Panasonic.
Now have a TZ110 to carry everywhere - it's seriously fucking awesome, an S1R for Going Out To Take Photos, which is a fucking beast - had to buy online without seeing how big it actually is, but I still love it - and whatever the wee waterproof one is for family snaps because we live between the river and beach and surf and kayak.
Still have a Sony I use for MX and track racing. The AF really is good, it's just a shitbag to use.

Can't find a pic that isn't too big to post right now dammit

it's one of the few viewfinder equipped ILC's at a decent secondhand price but I'm disappointed at its omission of the NEX-7's additional command dial. It also feels like a $300 camera.

Yes. Unless you're comfortable picking up something much more limiting like a 5D classic with a 50mm f/1.8. The only issue you'll run into with an a6000 is Sony's lens prices and somewhat limited (but growing) lens options compared to Canon/Nikon. Fantastic kit for someone looking to try out mirrorless. Don't listen to the gear heads telling you it's outdated.

You can get bodies for under $300 one ebay. I like mine. I use a $80 manual 35 mm Meike lens on it and get some good shots

That’s why I got mine, but I wanted some sharper and faster for my lenses. My sigma 30mm 1.4 and tamron 20mm 2.8 are so far treating me good without too much extra load. They’re worth looking into, the sigma is a bit heavier though it is small relatively speaking. You’re gonna want to move in from the kit lens is all I’m sayin I promise haha!

I mean even with crop factor it’s wide enough. I just got the thing a week ago, and I’ve been using it for random stuff to get a feel for it. It’s plenty sharp and it’s light as hell no lie. It’ll be good for architecture and landscape which is my end goal. Pic related was shot with the 20 mm

i would get 6100 when its on sale for similar price.
It does 4k, film shoots for longer periods, doesnt heat up, has improved sensor.
6100 is equivalent of 6400 or 6600 but with weaker composite body, no weather sealing and no picture profiles and no in body stabilization.
Isnt black friday soon?
