>>3752486I admittedly am newbie as fuck, photography is nothing more than a hobby for me. I have no understanding of anything except "if I change these numbers it kind of makes it look better".
That being said, the last photos I took using flash were just outside on a cloudy day. I just popped it on and thought, I like the way it made my subjects face brighter. Pic attached.
In a "studio" setting (my living room) I used my external flash with a remote trigger. I just had it pointed away from my subject, pointing up and away at a sheet I hung up. I think the actual term is flash diffuser? I have only been able to use it out and about a few times, and I've used it quite few times in a more controlled environment and I just couldn't get the hang of it except for 2 sessions. Each time it was just pointed at a sheet and I really loved the way it lit my subjects face up and created a glow, or just really brought the focus to them rather than anything else in the room.
I've enjoyed using flashes, but I'm autistic and really have no fucking idea what I'm doing.
