I pretty much got memed into buying ultra wide angle lens. I do landscapes for 90% of my shots and feel like tamron 17-28 is limitting me at times.
How wide is wide enough for you?

You get distortions on ultra wides. You can completely eliminated distorted areas by overlaying stacks when doing panoramas.

UW like 14mm and 16mm are fine and can be very useful when called for. They are best used for grand vistas, close foreground shots, and cloud heavy skies. I have found most of the landscapes I take are around 24-35mm for the focal length.

Panoramic stacking has it's place but often enough is less appropriate than a well used UW.

Distortions are really only noticeable if you shoot ultrawide around vertical trees or man-made structures like buildings fences or poles. Nature landscapes gain a big advantage because a lot of people who see the picture usually enjoy nature 1 month a year or a vacation for a moment.

There is a specific vantage point and angle of the lens you need to keep distortion to a minimum, or you end up being a retard like me who wastes a 12mm shot on post process with the amount of corrections you need to make shit look decent.

Problem with distortions is that everything is already shot a thousand times. We all know that they fake the scene, but normies did not know that before. It's different now with gazillion of mobile phones and photographs. Normies have always expected at least a hint of realism, now they know what it is. Ultra wide stands out next to a large format or panorama shot of the same scene. I think that's part of the reason why they went out of fashion in the past few years for landscape. They're much rarer in street and photojournalism as well, but I don't know the reasons for that.

In my opinion 120 degrees is the limit for corrected UWA lenses, more than that starts to look very uncanny to me.
For fisheye i have never thought about a limit.

Buying things because everybody else is doing it is peak nigger cattle, just shoot what you like and buy the things you need to do them better and better. Almost nobody needs a corrected Laowa 9mm so don't go searching for one just because.

I mean I know you gotta spin arround then stich it together, but I'd like to see some advanced magic I could utilize.

Get a panoramic head and/or use the entrance pupil/nodal point of the lens to comfortably shot without verticals looking weird.
But that applies mostly to non-UWA lenses, unless you have a fancy tilt-shift.

Unless you're including objects close to the camera you do not need to worry about parallax. In theory you can free hand panoramas but a tripod yields cleaner results with less photos taken. If you're shooting landscapes you're generally shooting at slower speeds so you will want a tripod anyway. You rotate the camera taking pictures that should overlap at least a third (focus points work wonders as reference points for this on dslrs). You can the pictures in portrait or landscape though you generally use a camera orientation that will match that of the final panorama. You can also stack multiple rows of images as long as you keep 1/3 overlap ruling going.

You then load them into your panorama program of choice. LR, ACR, PS all have decent stichers. For awhile Hugin had the best stitcher but I have idea if Adobe has caught up yet.
