What does film leica do that other cameras dont, before i drop 1500 dollars on one.

It's just another camera. But I like using my M3. Silent shutter, super smooth shutter actuation, quiet shutter, great finder and patch. Being able to focus quickly and get a shot off silently is good for street.

In terms of the IQ you get back? It won't be $1500 worth of difference. Unless you really feel like spending thousands on a summicron or something.

I keep hearing praise about the leica m8's colours, but i downloaded a raw file and messed with it, it looks fine for a 14 year old camera but its not exactly special.

What makes it special?

it's like buying some gibson with a nice finish and wood but costs 10k instead of the actual worth of the guitar in its functionality being like 1k max.

you will get the same sounds with a cheap one around 200-500

if you need to bother about the price it's not aimed at you. These things are aimed at either professionals or people who don't even look at price tags.

Do you have a rangefinder? Do you like shooting rangefinders? If you haven’t used one you should buy a cheaper rangefinder and see if you like it before even looking at Leica. If you’re just after the glass, there are other M-mount bodies from Canon and Voightlander.

Unless there is a real reason you want one I would save your money. You could get a Canon P like suggested earlier and buy a truckload of film as well.
