I own a high-quality DSLR camera with two lenses. After taking a photo I rarely check the camera display. I am sure I know if the photo is good or bad. My photos often linger for weeks on the memory card, before I store them on an external hard disk, where they rest forever. I do not edit my photos, nor do I publish or print them. I do not even look at them. Most of my photos I have only seen through the camera viewfinder in the moment I took them and in my head. I am happy with it. Does anyone here feel the same as I do?

OP here. I am not trolling. I like the process of capturing a picture, especially in the right moment. And I feel happy when I have succeeded. But I dislike editing and stuff and I don't care what others think about my pictures. Didn't Vivian Maier and other photogs (Elliot Erwitt?) leave dozens of undeveloped film rolls behind? Maybe they felt the same?

Close I guess. I spend all weekend shooting street then only posting a handful of pics on /p/ and showing them to a few friends

You should buy a nice film camera. You will enjoy the process of taking your time to set upt everything right and take the photo.
And you dont even need to buy film as you never look at the photos.

I'm almost the same as you. When I take pictures, I do not review them all, I only review one or two, but I can't review them all cuz they are cringy,

when ppl looke at me taking pictures i feel cringey thus my photos are imbued with a cringy aura
thus i can't look at them for too long, i just take a general look at the thumbnails and say "looks good enough to me." and i copy them all on my hard drive and I never look at them again.
Also I sometimes tthink things lke "why did I use these settings" or "that's just complete shit", those are bad feelings; I want to feel good feelings; thus I don't look at my photos, and I pretend that I captured the atmosphere exactly how I wanted and I'm content.

OP back again. It is a quiet night, yesterday the first snow fell and I have time again to think about myself. Some photographers destroyed their own work because they were unsatisfied with it (e.g. there is a video on Youtube showing how the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf tears one of his prints into pieces). I also did this when I once burnt all my self-developed black-and-white negatives from the past 20 years. With digital, I do not have to destroy or delete, but I can simply move the files to external hard drives where I never access them again and nobody else will be able to because the drive is encrypted. This is less painful than deleting. I would have thought that some other guy here feels as I do and I am surprised that this does not seem to be the case. It is something different than taking 1000 street photos and showing only 1% of it because in street photography it is normal that the yield is so small. I however do not even share the good ones. I was pleased to read from an autistic person that my assumption could actually be correct; this gives me more than a medical diagnosis. Accordingly, reading from others here who treat their pictures similarly than I do, would give me more than a photog confirming that my photos are good. I know that they are good, and therefore there is no need to fish for compliments. It would not be the same to use a film camera (of which I even have three left) and not to insert a film because this would only be the simulation of taking a photograph. Instead, I really do photograph and therefore I can be happy about a real existing result.

I don’t have autism but I feel something similar. Photography is art and art is personal. Going out and taking photos makes me go out and do things I wouldn’t otherwise and view things in a different light. But we differ in that I do like to review and edit my photos; I just don’t particularly care if other people like them because it’s personal to me. That’s also part of why I like film because the production of the photo and the end result are separated. I like just enjoying taking photos and then I can consider the results later. With digital I always feel compelled to take photos for the sake of the end result, if that makes any sense, and I get worse photos as a result.

A question I have for you is whether the in/tangibility of the artifacts from your process are important to you. Obviously, shooting film cameras without film is silly, but what does accruing the results of your work mean to you? Even if it is to just destroy or burn them, that can be meaningful as well. Are you anxious about your work being perceived or do you just not care? At the end of it all, what form does your body of work take?
