Speaking of presets does anyone know how to convert XMP to .lrtemplate? I've still got a standalone version of lightroom. Don't really want to join the pay service thing with upgrading lightroom just so I can use .xmp presets.

I've actually run a bunch of presets through there and they always seem to come out really weak, like there's barely any settings. I've been weary about that Allievi one, I don't know anyone who's used it.

Can someone explain this preset meme to me? Are they somehow that special that fiddling with sliders and saving your own preset doesn’t cut it?

Tweaking sliders takes a tinny bit of skill. Regular photographer will rather spend money to get some settings than learn how to edit his photos. It gives him more time to argue sensor tech and look at photos at 200% magnification.
